But Then No...

Also known as 'Because, Part II,' since, let's face it, I'm also me.

I want to take a minute to explain my version of Savitri's story. No one asked her to marry them (scared no doubt), so she went and proposed to the guy she found worth marrying instead. Note that clearly staying single didn't occur to someone who was famed to be wise. I sooo agree - rent is much cheaper shared.

Well, you may ask, when you've the pick of all the men in the land, whyyyy end up with one that chops wood instead of cooking decently like a good husband? The reason, as I see it, is two-fold. First, it's about wanting what you can't have. She set the precedent for me. Yes, I blame my committment-phobia on her.

Second, if I were in her shoes.... I'd see ex-prince, dying in a year, chance to claim fortune upon death... where do I sign?? As for why she fought with Yama, I suppose the quest for immortal fame explains that. I'd have done the same, given I really don't think my boobs are big enough to burn out an entire city even if I flung them in random directions like Kannagi.

And anyway I think Kannagi's story is more metaphorical, spiritual if you will. It's a story about why women should be laid before they turn into neurotic nags. But that's another story for another post. Pandigai naal, abacharam!
