It's been a weird week without my laptop. I did things I've never done before. Such as fall asleep mid afternoon for lack of anything better to do. I also read through some management & sports books, for the same reason. Ditto watching daytime TV and making phone calls to people because I couldn't just ping them. (I'm so not a phone person.)
Then there was the day when I went to pick my laptop up from the service center, but they didn't have it ready yet. So I went out and watched a movie by myself to fill in the time till they had it ready. I've never done that before, and I've hardly ever watched morning shows on weekdays - so I didn't realize I'd literally have the entire theater to myself.
I ran through security and the demographic poll guy at the gate in my usual OCD way (stopping only to snap 'Yes!' at the very annoying guy who bleated 'Married-a??' at my filled-up card) and found myself all. alone. In a giant theater. With the lights dim. Thank god I hadn't opted to watch a 3d movie or I'd have peed my pants right about then. (Whaaat, so I'm scared of 3d. You'd be scared too if someone or something actually came that close in real life.)
Just when I was getting good and freaked out by how very dark and big it was, a gay couple showed up. So that's who else watches weekday morning shows. Some kids playing hooky from college also eventually turned up and it started to feel very cozy. All in all it was most fun, and I was quite disappointed that the laptop was ready when I went back.
Sadly nothing on it can be recovered which means my lovely collection of one-line recipes is gone. GONE! As is the bloody novel I was writing. There go my chapter outlines. It's back to the drawing board if I want to write a book out by the time I'm 25*. And I only have six days.
*I know I technically wrote one full-length one already, but it doesn't count if I don't want to send it to a publisher :P
