Ok here's the thing - I've never, like, NEVER, had a boyfriend AT Valentine's time, EVER. In. My. Life. Nonetheless, every year I expect no less than 8-10 valentines, and god knows they've come to mean more than any boyfriend-given valentine can. Have I mentioned I've the most awesome friends in the world?
And so yeah, I really resent the hell out of the whole bitching-about-Valentines thing, 'cos to me Valentine's is all about the magic my friends create just from being there, no matter who else comes and goes. As for boyfriends, well paha, IMHO, they need to be awesome to their girlfriends all year long - Valentine's is just kind of a good reminder.
That said, I'm not above being all aww yay, look at all the love on Feb 14... just like I'm not above being aww, yay, look at all the joy on Dec 25th. To summarize, a conversation I had with my senior from college:
K: You're just happy all the time, evil chirpy person!
Me: Hell yeah, I'm too young to know any better :)
You're one person I know who'd say aww and bleddy bitch all in the same sentence!
