Love Aaj Kal

Many a thathuvam has been taught to the louwe of my life Tewari. Here it is, then, in no particular order:

1. Should you make men wait or be sweet?
I can't be sweet to a man I dislike and I can't make a man I like wait. So, I block those I dislike, and mark those I like 'Never.' That way, I never see them online till they ping me first.

2. Does being too available translate into a bad thing?
The same way the laissez-faire economy takes away all the pleasure from bargaining.

3. So should you be pricey when he finally pings?
No, 'cos that gets them defensive, and that's no fun for anyone. More importantly, it's less fun for us than it is for him. Most importantly, it surprises and scares the shit outta them when you aren't pissed at them for no good reason.

4. What's the difference between acting pricey and making them chase?
Well, when they like you, it's making them chase. When they don't like you, they tell you you're being pricey.

5. If I don't remember our consensus on a guy, is it possible I like him?
No, it's possible we said he sure as hell doesn't have looks, so maybe he has personality. And personality isn't memorable when it's a product of Shaadi.com.

PS: Tuna-fish, does any of this sound familiar from when I was on the whine-asky end? You make me wisdomous :)

Three

Remember when Buzz was something bees did, GOOG stock could buy you a car, and FB didn't exist 'cos Orkut rocked our existence? Teeeeeen saal baaaaad... :) I've now been working for as many years as I stayed in college. Except. You know. I WENT to work as opposed to putting attendance in college and skipping off for culturals. What, then, have I achieved in this time?

Fifteen kilos lost, ten gained, three lost, two gained... friends came and went in pretty much the same ratio. Louwe for the ones that stayed, bitching-potential from those that didn't. Funny houses with funnier landlords. Memories to share with the grandchildren. Reluctance to bring grandchildren into the world. Profound understanding of karma. Hoping it bites some people in the ass in some lifetime.

Things are good, things are bad. Things change, they remain the same. Replace 'things' with 'people,' or me. It's a tiring life, but someone's got to live it, and I've certainly had my laughs along the way. Up and down. Up and down. I'm motion sick now. It's time to retire I think. But the time gone by's shaped me to be what I am. For better or for worse. And thus... three years.

The Big Two Oh!

I've to stay awake a good hour more to wish one of my favorite people in the world a very happy birthday, so I figured I'd write to kill some time.

In retrospect, I dunno why I never bothered asking my mom where babies come from. I was too busy enjoying my baby brother to care where he descended from. And why not? Kid was so delightfully susceptible. I used to tell him school was oh-so-fun (actually I may have believed that myself, there was this uber cute boy in my class, with a Power Rangers pencil box!) and my poor dear brother was so excited, he used to carry my school bag all the way to the van every morning, and run to fetch it when I got home afterwards.

He wised up once he attended school of course. I remember being called to his classroom several times to get him to stop yelling about wanting to go home. Predictably, I only cried when it was time to GO home, so we complemented each other rather well. That said, even up to now, he still fetches my bag and carries my books. Sure, he swears while doing it now, whacks me with the bag (ow, btw!), tells me he's spoiling me, and so on. Still. Carry it, he does. Spoil me, he does. As he's been doing all his life.

Sometimes I join my parents in wondering if the little brat will ever grow up. I haven't bothered clue'ing them in on the fact that he's as grown up now as he's ever needed to be. Happy birthday Gozzzzby :)

Addition at 00:02AM, May 9: called boy, wished him (fully worth it, he was piss-drunk), woke mom up, handed over her mother's day gift. All in all, very aww. And now, thankfully for my sanity, I get to sleep. Tralala. BYE.
