Edelweiss

You've got to give it to the movie - The Sound of Music is the sole phenomenon capable of using the words 'When the Lord closes a door, somewhere He opens a window,' without remotely inspiring barfs, giggles, or sordid tweets, even in 2010. An eternal classic like this one almost has you believing generation gaps are a figment of imagination because it still makes so much sense.

I'll grant that Do Re Mi is a mindnumbingly annoying song (not to mention it goes on and on and ON), but you can forgive the movie that, given it also produces gems like Sixteen Going on Seventeen. Don't even pretend you didn't smile your head off watching that one.

And however many starlets Hollywood produces, few can pull off the kind of beauty Julie Andrews radiated in her simple blue dress. At first I thought it was 'cos I watched it when I was 4 and naive, but recent re-viewing confirmed she's still an absolute dream on celluloid.

Finally, call Paris and Rome romantic as much as you want, to me Salzburg rules penultimate. I may say I want to see Austria because of it's WWII significance, but don't let me kid you - it's the movie that's the driving force.

... Point of this excessive PR being that if you (a) didn't watch the movie as a kid, my heart bleeds for you, and (b) if you watched it as a kid, watch it again because (i) it never gets old, and (ii) omg, so many dialogues that I didn't *get* when I was younger and which I can't stop smirking at now! This movie has a healthy sense of evil humor.

Oh, and final appeal, if you don't like this movie - really?? REALLY???? Okay, just please don't tell me. I love it way too much.
