Lessons

I've learned a lot from observing the husband... having consoled myself with the thought that he's older and therefore wiser, I've started doing some things differently.

Professionally: Defining clear goals. Negotiating hard for what I want. Telling people who try to walk all over me that they can stuff it. Prioritizing and working smarter. Taking breaks. Taking risks. Waiting (slightly) more patiently for the right opportunities to come my way. Starting to believe in my own worth.

Personally: Outsourcing what I dislike doing. Not feeling as guilty about eating out, or having someone clean the house, or whatever else is just more convenient some times. Spending more time talking to the people who matter. Not wasting time with the ones who don't, particularly with social courtesies such as birthday greetings to people whom I dislike (my logic used to be: well, Facebook says it's their birthday, and they don't know that I don't like them. Now I say: they're never going to notice if I don't, and at least it won't make me wince when I know I don't mean it).

Obsessing

You know how in retrospect you can always think of something better you could have said? That. Times ten thousand. Because the interviews have begun.

Monday Morning Profoundness

I woke up this morning, and I had an acute case of the Monday blues because I had nowhere to go. Nowhere except a premiere of The Expendables (with Terry Crews & Randy Couture in the audience as well as on screen) that is.  But apparently I'd rather go to an office desk day in and day out all week long and feel important. So. Pathetic.

Then I logged onto Facebook, because, you know, that's what people do, whether they have a job or not. And I realized it's the birthday of my very first obsessive real-life crush, a date that I always thought would be seared in my memory forever (this WAS the guy I sang meaningful songs to in Antakshari and suchlike. the cringability of retrospective thinking!) (As long as we're confessing embarrassing things, let me also point out that we used to have identical purple velvet jackets - I'm not even sure why I had one, but I know for sure that HE really shouldn't have unless he WANTED to look like Willy Wonka)

These are the kinds of things I can't say on my other blog because my family watches that space. Thank God for this oasis where I can be the usual me.
