He looked at her and thought of a startled deer staring straight into the blinding headlights of an approaching car-- waiting, heroically, for the impact.
"For God's sake," he muttered impatiently. She moved, finally. If only to budge a fraction away from him. He looked at her in frustration, dying to take her into his arms and comfort her. And knowing the very prospect would terrify her. He looked into her eyes; deep yet empty, lonely, unfathomable. As always, he ended up feeling shut out; dismissed.
"Tell me what he did," he tried again, wanting desperately to be let into the mystery those eyes held.
Her answer was the same as always.
